As many have said in other reviews, this decanter is a little difficult to assemble. I figured out an easy way to do it though. I placed the metal stand on the floor, slipped the neck of the decanter through the hole, then stepped on the metal base with my foot.
As I gently pulled up on the top part of the stand, the decanter was able to slip easily through the space and seat itself properly with no scratches at all.
Also, cleaning isn't too bad if you have one of those sprayer thingies on your sink. Just turn the decanter upside-down and spray upwards into it.
Description of WMF Glass Duck Decanter with Stand
One of WMF's high-quality wine accessories, this glass decanter fits securely into its stainless-steel stand to resemble the classic duck shape prized for decanters. The decanter holds one 750-milliliter bottle of red wine and can be removed from the stand to sit upright on its own. A recess in the decanter's bottom permits the lower end of the stand's handle to snap firmly into the decanter so it won't slip while wine is poured. The stand's stainless steel is high-grade 18/10 polished to a mirror finish. Both decanter and stand are dishwasher-safe, but wiping with a cloth better preserves the stand's bright finish. --Fred BrackWine Accessories
